Since the early 1990’s, Joanne Correia-Kent and Donna Lavalle worked together in two psychiatric hospitals in South Florida. Then in December of 1998, Dr. Christina G. Smith, a young psychiatrist with whom they worked and admired greatly, was tragically killed. In August of 1999, they opened Smith Community Mental Health not only in her honor, but based upon the values she held close and practiced in her work every day.
